WELCOME TO MY HOMETOWN:

Location of Bogo
About three hours by bus north of Cebu lies Bogo City. Bogo has over 50,000 people and a nice little shopping area featuring a Gaisano department store and supermarket, movies, Jollibee and many other shops around about. Not far away is the new market area and jeepney terminal and you can ride a tricycle there for a few pesos.
Nearby there is the port of Bogo, a long wharf that juts out into Bogo Bay where pump boats from other islands like Masbate and Leyte call in, fishing boats drop off their catch and at night, lovers seek solitude and darkness amidst the romantic backdrop of the sea. From the wharf you can look across the bay to Polambato where the vehicular ferry to Leyte pulls in. This is the vessel the bus to Manila uses to continue its 48 hour journey from Cebu City to the National Capital.Around Bogo there are sugar cane plantations, coconut trees and mango farms. On the road in from Cebu you pass the imposing shrine on the hill. The best place to stay amongst several clean local style hotels is a way out of town at the Nailon Beach Resort. Otherwise head across the tip of the island of Cebu to San Remigio where there are several other resorts and the road south down the west coast to Toledo and MoalBoal. Just north of San Remigio is Hagnaya where you catch the ferry to Bantayan Island enarby.

Capitancillo Island

The Capitancillo Island is Bogo's tourist destination. Capitancillo Island is an isolated six-hectare coralline islet, situated in between Cebu and Leyte. Under the jurisdiction of Bogo City, it is 10 kilometers southeast of Bogo and 100 kilometers north from Mactan Island.Standing at the center of the island is the all alone solar-powered lighthouse, sitting amongst the remains of an old structure. Rebuilt in 1950’s, the lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses in the province. The island got its name after American navy captain, Captain Cillo whose vessel was beached on its shores during the days of the war. Up to this moment, the island remains uninhabited but fishermen frequent in the island to take their time-out, fix their weary nets and dry their daily catch of fish. The island itself is a very little sand and with no other vegetation but a tree. However, the true beauty of the island lies under its seas as snorkelers and divers discovered the beauty of its nearby waters. It has a shallow edge which drops down from 25 to 40 meters which ideal for snorkeling. Besides, half of the island’s reef was declared as a marine sanctuary and the local government is exerting its earnest effort to protect the area. However, the attraction of the island is in diving. It has three dive sites with similar profiles: the Capitancillo Island’s own southwest wall, the Ormoc and Nunez Shoals. The coral reef from 7-10 meters deep ends on the southwest wall, going down to 40 meters which is the main interest of the divers. From the reef of white sandy paths with lots of soft and hard corals, sea fans, starfishes, sea urchins, sea cucumbers and many reef denizens to the walls offering crevices and overhangs, showcasing various marine flora and fauna makes dive a memory that lasts.

Some Places in Bogo:

Oldest House in Bogo

Bogo Tree

Bogo tree stands tall infront of the Bogo Cityhall, St. Joseph Village, Bogo City, Cebu. I dont know much about this tree except that its scientific tree is Garuga Floribunda and it was under this tree that early inhabitants of Bogo were making trades with people from neighboring provinces of Leyte, Masbate Negros, and others.

Pintos

Pintos are ubiquitously wrapped delicacies that looks like suman (a type of rice cake) except that banana leaves are not used. It is made from ground corn, milk and, either butter (special) or margarine (ordinary) and wrapped with the husk (or is it sheath?) of the corn’s ear. It is then steamed. Special pintos may have additional ingredients like cheese or strips of coconut. At the bus stops, a pack of five is sold at 50 pesos and higher if it’s special. It is best eaten when still hot and steaming.
So that's it. I really love to be a Bogohanon since before. I love its beautiful places. Hope you love it too.
